CHEERS® is pleased to announce the “Reopening” of the CHEERS Existing Home Program. CHEERS® has developed new Existing Home software program and a new training class. The time is right for Raters to offer this service to homeowners. Rising home utility costs have driven many homeowners to question how they can improve the energy efficiency of their homes. The CHEERS® Existing Home Program allows Raters to evaluate the efficiency of a home and make specific conservation recommendations to homeowners
This course is designed to train the future generation of residential energy auditors to inspect and to make small energy conservation retrofits in existing homes.
Through our online and interactive course the student will learn the basics of performing a comprehensive residential energy audit. The training program will also walk the student through the step by step process on how to set up their own business performing residential energy audits. At the end of the online course and our 2 day lab and field training the student will be proficient in how to identify energy targets, calculate the home energy use, identify alternatives, and how to professionally install each of the recommended energy conservation measures, you will also learn how to accurately complete a scope of work, and a comprehensive report showing your finished work.
Level 1: 24 hours
Level 2: 16 hours
This 24 hour course will prepare the student for the RESNET Home Energy Survey Professional (HESP)
Certifi cation Exam. This course covers all the foundational building energy and construction science to begin a career as a home energy professional. A Level 1 HESP is qualified to perform a walk-through assessment of the general energy performance problems and make basic recommendations for improvements or further analysis.
Classroom Hours: 40 hours
This course introduces the student to Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power systems and their installation. Upon successful completion of the 40 hour course the student will have a rudimentary knowledge of residential and commercial solar systems. The lab will provide hands-on experience with a variety of systems encountered in the industry. Upon successful completion of this basic entry level course, the student will be offered the opportunity to take the North American Board of Energy Practitioner’s (NABCEP) Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge.

This course is designed to concentrate on the basics of installing code compliant solar hot water systems. This course will be useful for people who currently work in or plan to be employed in the solar hot water industry. Student technicians will learn practical design criteria, installation guidelines, safety issues, maintenance, and legal considerations of solar hot water heating systems.

This course is perfect for individuals or general contractors wishing to become certified to do weatherization jobs or to supplement residential energy auditing or inspection services.
Whether you’re an individual contractor wishing to get certified or if you have a weatherization crew you would like to get certified in basic weatherization, we have the solution for you. This interactive course contains text, audio, videos, images and diagrams. The courses involve you with the learning and make learning weatherization terminology fast and easy through the use of interactive flashcards, practice quizzes, and other interactive learning tools. Once you complete the online coursework and exams you will be required to attend one or more of our mobile labs to complete the hands-on component of our training program.
Classroom Hours: 24 hours
This 3-day course is a combination of classroom and in-field training. The course is designed for new raters/technicians, but may also be used as a refresher for other existing Raters and Home Performance Contractors. The course will cover the basics of how to conduct an evaluation of a house and a health and safety assessment. Topics included in the training are: The equipment used in an evaluation, residential construction details, energy principles, and the various steps involved in the evaluation. Participants will learn how to use the blower door, pressure gauges. Participants will also learn how to do refrigeration appliance replacement assessments, and how to conduct duct leakage testing.
Classroom Hours: 16 hours
This course is designed for people with either basic plumbing, landscaping, or permaculture skills who want to learn how to design and build simple, low-tech residential greywater systems. This course covers the basics of greywater- types of systems, codes, soaps and products, plants, and system design. Participants gain experience with the tools and materials required for two types of greywater systems, the laundry to landscape and the branched drain system. During the course one full greywater system is designed and installed. All skill levels are welcome, and there will be a range of activities appropriate to address the needs of different skill levels.
The ReUse People in partnership with Community Alliance for Career Training and Utility Solutions (CACTUS) is offering the first in a series of deconstruction trainings throughout California. The entire deconstruction process, from project review and bidding, to the shipment of salvaged materials, will be covered. If you are a contractor interested in diversifying, this course is for you. Deconstruction involves the careful dismantling of buildings with the goal of preserving reusable materials.
